Who We Are

Just Futures Law (JFL) is a women-of-color-led movement law project that defends and builds the power of immigrant rights and criminal justice activists, organizers, and community groups to prevent criminalization, detention, and deportation of immigrants and people of color in the United States. JFL was founded in 2019 using a movement lawyering and racial justice framework. We are a growing start-up with a fast-paced, movement culture.

About The Internship

Just Futures Law is seeking a Communications Intern for 2025. The Communications Intern will work closely with the Communications Director to elevate JFL’s profile, work hand in hand with CD to uplift program work, and support grassroot efforts around immigrant rights, tech, and surveillance. The communications internship will offer opportunities to support the development of our popular education efforts. Duties include:

  • Supporting JFL’s external communications on a monthly basis (newsletter and email)

  • Content creation for JFL’s social media platforms

  • Assistance in maintaining JFL’s website up-to-date

  • Minimal editing assistance to press releases and communications materials

  • Cross-team collaboration to produce narrative and pop ed materials

  • Creation of original content for our #EyesonTech campaign

  • Other duties as assigned

*Please note that this is an extended internship opportunity, candidates who can commit to a minimum of six months will be prioritized*

  • Time Commitment: Between 10-20 hours per week

  • Duration: Internship requires six months with a flexible start and end date. The ideal candidate would be available for Spring and Summer 2025.

  • Location: Applicants must live and work in one of the following states: DC, VA, MA, GA, CA, NC, OR or MN.

  • Compensation: This is a temporary, non-exempt, part-time internship. This is an hourly internship rate at $20 an hour.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have creative and design experience in producing social media graphics, good writing skills, and an eye for detail.

· Good work ethic and communication skills

· Ability to work independently

· Excellent creative writing skills and/or some background in journalism, creative writing, website, and creating graphics

· Familiarity with one of the following issues: immigration, racial justice, tech surveillance, and/or criminal legal system

· Strong commitment to racial justice, immigrant rights, and civil rights
