Boston University School of Law and JFL v ICE

We originally filed a public records request in January of 2021. This FOIA lawsuit was filed against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and obtained over 500 documents from ICE regarding their issuance of administrative subpoenas to tech companies like YouTube, Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for personal information from their users and subscribers. This FOIA lawsuit uncovered ICE’s efforts to expand data surveillance of U.S. residents, revealing the use of admin subpoenas hundreds of times during the time period of 2018-2021.
